The Wine of Violence by James Morrow

What would happen if society successfully eliminated violence? Would humanity become more enlightened—or merely suppress instincts that cannot truly be erased?

In The Wine of Violence, James Morrow explores these questions through a provocative science fiction fable set in a future society built on the promise of perfect peace. As tensions emerge beneath the surface of a carefully controlled civilization, long-held assumptions about morality, freedom, and human nature are challenged. Combining sharp social commentary with imaginative worldbuilding, this early novel showcases the intelligence and wit that would later make Morrow one of science fiction’s most respected satirical voices.
