Synopsis

Congressman Evan Kendrick has a secret. Before entering politics, he became involved in a terrifying hostage crisis in the Middle East and accomplished something so extraordinary that powerful people would prefer the truth remain buried.

But someone knows what Kendrick did.

When his secret actions are deliberately exposed, Kendrick suddenly becomes a national hero—and is propelled toward political power he never sought. Behind his unexpected rise is a shadowy organization manipulating events from inside the American political establishment.

As Kendrick attempts to uncover who is controlling his future, he discovers an international conspiracy involving terrorism, intelligence operations, political ambition and people willing to kill to protect their plans.

The Icarus Agenda is classic large-scale Ludlum: an ordinary man’s private actions draw him into an increasingly dangerous world where political power and hidden agendas collide.

EugeneBookStore Summary

A reluctant hero. A secret operation. And a political conspiracy reaching into the highest levels of power.

Evan Kendrick never intended to become a national hero. But after his role in a deadly Middle Eastern hostage crisis becomes public, his life changes almost overnight.

Suddenly Washington wants him.

The problem is that Kendrick’s rise isn’t accidental. Someone powerful has been arranging events behind the scenes, and discovering why may be far more dangerous than the original mission.

At nearly 700 pages, The Icarus Agenda is a substantial old-school espionage thriller filled with international intrigue, secret organizations, terrorism, Washington politics and the elaborate conspiracies that made Robert Ludlum one of the defining thriller writers of his era.

Collector Notes

The Icarus Agenda was originally published in hardcover in 1988, with paperback editions following. This copy is a Bantam mass-market paperback, ISBN 9780553199475.

The distinctive gray concentric-circle cover, blue metallic title lettering and White House illustration identify this as one of the earlier Bantam paperback presentations of the novel.

As with the older Ludlum books we’ve been cataloging, I would not mark this as First Edition based on the ISBN or cover alone. The copyright page should be checked for the printing statement or number line before assigning first-printing status.

This is primarily a reader/Robert Ludlum collection copy rather than a high-value collectible, but the vintage cover design gives it some appeal for someone assembling matching older Ludlum paperbacks.
