Synopsis

London police constable and apprentice wizard Peter Grant is sent far outside his normal territory when two young girls disappear in rural Herefordshire. His assignment seems straightforward: determine whether anything supernatural is involved and, assuming it isn’t, return to London.

But Peter isn’t particularly good at walking away from people who need help. He stays to assist the local police, and what initially appears to be an ordinary missing-person investigation begins revealing increasingly strange connections.

Soon Peter finds himself dealing with local legends, mysterious inhabitants and a countryside where the boundary separating modern Britain from the world of magic and fairy is dangerously thin. The result takes the Rivers of London series out of its familiar urban environment while retaining its combination of police investigation, dry humor and supernatural mystery.

EugeneBookStore Summary

A particularly good EugeneBookStore fantasy title. The Rivers of London books combine urban fantasy with British police procedural and mystery elements, giving them appeal beyond traditional fantasy readers.

Foxglove Summer is also a useful series-building book. Ben Aaronovitch has a substantial ongoing readership, so accumulating consecutive Peter Grant volumes could make either attractive individual store inventory or a desirable multi-book set.
