On the frontier between humanity’s Polity and the vicious prador lies an extraordinary threat: an entire solar system transformed by the long-dead Jain and filled with living technology capable of destroying civilizations.
Neither side can risk allowing the other to control it, leaving Orlandine—a part-human, part-AI haiman—and the mysterious alien entity Dragon guarding the deadly technology. Meanwhile, the android Angel searches for a devastating Jain super-soldier. Their competing missions converge in a conflict that could permanently alter the balance of power throughout the Polity.
EugeneBookStore Summary
A strong entry point into Neal Asher’s Rise of the Jain trilogy and a good addition to a serious modern science-fiction collection. The Soldier combines large-scale space opera with artificial intelligence, alien civilizations, advanced weapons and Asher’s established Polity universe. It should particularly appeal to readers who enjoy technologically dense, action-driven science fiction.
