Synopsis

NUMA Special Assignments Team leader Kurt Austin becomes involved in a deadly mystery after a scientist disappears and evidence points toward an extraordinary technology capable of manipulating the Earth’s natural energy.

The trail leads Austin and Joe Zavala to Australia and into the plans of a brilliant but dangerous scientist whose experiments could unleash devastating earthquakes and tsunamis. What was intended as revolutionary technology has become a weapon powerful enough to threaten millions of lives.

With time running out, Austin and his NUMA team must race across land and sea to locate the hidden installation and stop the experiment before it reaches zero hour. The adventure combines underwater exploration, advanced science, international intrigue, and the large-scale action that defines the NUMA Files.

EugeneBookStore Summary

Zero Hour is a strong entry in the Kurt Austin adventures, blending Cussler’s trademark maritime action with Graham Brown’s fast-paced technological thriller style.

The Australian setting, secret scientific experiments, underwater missions, and threat of catastrophic natural disasters give this installment a particularly cinematic feel. Readers who enjoy Dirk Pitt but haven’t explored the NUMA Files will find Zero Hour an excellent example of what the series offers.

Collector Notes

Zero Hour is the 11th novel in the NUMA Files series and an important title from the Graham Brown era of the series. Brown became Cussler’s NUMA Files collaborator following Paul Kemprecos, and this is their second collaboration in the series after Devil’s Gate. This Berkley edition is identified on the cover as the first paperback edition. It is a relatively modern Cussler paperback and is not especially scarce, but clean copies are desirable for readers assembling matching NUMA Files collections. The attractive condition of this copy makes it considerably more appealing than the heavily read copies commonly encountered.
