Good reading copy with heavy exterior wear. The front has substantial edge and corner rubbing, numerous scratches and scuffs, several creases, and pronounced creasing across the upper-right corner. There is considerable white color loss around the edges, especially along the bottom.
The back has similar rubbing, scratching, edge wear and creasing, plus a large retail inventory/price sticker. The covers remain attached and the title artwork is fully readable, but cosmetically this is definitely toward the lower end of Good. |

For more than fifty years, the Terran Republic and Terran League have waged a devastating war that has killed billions. The privileged Five Hundred of the Heart Worlds remain largely insulated from the slaughter, but Rear Admiral Terrence Murphy is different.
Murphy is wealthy, politically connected and positioned for a comfortable rise through the Republic’s power structure. Instead, his assignment to the supposedly insignificant Fringe System of New Dublin begins exposing secrets behind decades of warfare. Driven by duty rather than personal advancement, Murphy sets out to uncover who has perpetuated the bloodshed—and stop them.
A large-scale military space opera from David Weber and Richard Fox, Governor launches the Ascent to Empire series and explores the earlier history of the universe associated with Weber’s In Fury Born. Political corruption, interstellar warfare, advanced military technology and an honor-driven protagonist make this a strong choice for readers of traditional Baen military science fiction.
This is the 2022 Baen mass-market paperback edition, ISBN 9781982126117, with an original U.S. cover price of $8.99 and 656 pages.
It is Book #1 of Ascent to Empire and is described on the cover as a companion novel to In Fury Born.
The series currently continues with:
#2 — Rebel
David Weber’s bibliography describes Ascent to Empire as taking place several hundred years before In Fury Born, during the League Wars.
