Synopsis

Detective and forensic psychologist Alex Cross faces a case that becomes terrifyingly personal when his niece Naomi disappears from college in North Carolina.

Naomi isn’t the only missing woman. Cross discovers a disturbing pattern of disappearances involving intelligent, accomplished young women—and evidence suggesting that a calculating predator calling himself Casanova is responsible.

At the same time, another violent criminal known as The Gentleman Caller is operating across the country. When one of Casanova’s captives manages to escape, Cross finally gains an invaluable witness who may help him penetrate the carefully constructed world of the kidnappers.

But finding Naomi means entering the minds of men who regard abduction, terror, and murder as part of an elaborate game. For Cross, solving the case is no longer simply police work. He has to bring his niece home.

EugeneBookStore Summary

Kiss the Girls is one of the novels that established Alex Cross as one of modern crime fiction’s best-known detectives.

James Patterson combines a deeply personal investigation with a large-scale hunt for multiple predators, giving the story considerably higher emotional stakes than a routine police procedural. Cross isn’t simply pursuing a criminal—someone he loves is among the missing.

Short chapters, rapidly shifting perspectives, psychological suspense, and escalating danger make this a particularly fast read. It’s an excellent choice for customers discovering the Alex Cross series and a natural recommendation for readers of Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, Jeffrey Deaver, and Harlan Coben.

Collector Notes

Originally published in 1995, Kiss the Girls is the second Alex Cross novel, following Along Came a Spider and preceding Jack & Jill.

This particular copy is a 1997 movie-tie-in mass-market edition, issued in connection with the Paramount film adaptation starring Morgan Freeman as Alex Cross and Ashley Judd as Kate McTiernan. The photographic artwork on the cover distinguishes it from earlier editions.

Movie-tie-in paperbacks can be interesting additions to author or film collections, although this edition was printed in substantial quantities and isn’t generally considered scarce. With the visible wear, this copy is best marketed as an affordable Alex Cross reading copy/movie-tie-in edition rather than a high-grade collectible.
