Synopsis

Following the collapse of the Galactic Empire, the Vegan Confederacy appears far too small to survive a galaxy filled with warlords, pirates and hostile powers. Its survival depends upon a secret force: the Zone agents, extraordinarily powerful telepaths capable of reading opponents and intervening at precisely the right moment to prevent wars, overthrow despots and stop invasions.

This expanded collection brings together the four classic Agent of Vega adventures with seven additional Schmitz stories, including The Custodians, Gone Fishing, The Beacon to Elsewhere, Watch the Sky and Rogue Psi. The result is a substantial collection of imaginative mid-century science fiction filled with psychic powers, intelligent spacecraft, alien civilizations and interstellar intrigue.

EugeneBookStore Summary
A substantial collection from classic science-fiction author James H. Schmitz, bringing his four Agent of Vega stories together with seven additional works. This Baen edition is particularly attractive for readers of vintage space opera and Golden Age science fiction because it gathers material originally published from the 1940s through the 1960s into one large volume. The Mercedes Lackey preface, Eric Flint/Guy Gordon compilation and Bob Eggleton cover also make it a strong representative edition of Schmitz’s work.

Collector Notes
This is the first expanded, unitary publication of Agent of Vega & Other Stories and the first Baen printing from November 2001. Baen notes that the original four Agent of Vega stories had previously been collected in 1960, while this edition adds seven additional Schmitz stories. Cover artwork is by noted science-fiction artist Bob Eggleton.
